Eee Box

Eee Box Unboxed

First Boot-Up

We're rigged up and ready to go, so let's do this!

As soon as I hit the power button on the Eee Box, Splashtop came up. It took about five seconds, but it seemed pretty much instantaneous. After allowing the Splashtop OS to time out, it took about a minute to load Windows XP into setup. After setting up user accounts and their settings, I rebooted. From the time the screen went blank after Splashtop exited to the time the XP logon screen was ready, about 30 seconds had passed. Not bad!

Things seemed pretty responsive. StarOffice opened quickly, pre-installed programs opened in a timely manner... it all makes it seem that Asus has hit the nail on the head with this machine. It only took about nine seconds to shut it down, from pressing the Turn Off button until the power light went off. And the whole time the system was on, it was very, very quiet. In fact, I can hardly hear it even if I put my head up to it!
